So, after nearly 20 hours of cramped flight time, no sleep, and seemingly being awake for days, we finally arrived in Kuwait. "Camp Beuhring" Is the main staging point for US Forces headed to Iraq. They tell us that "There are no declared hostile forces in Kuwait" but then they later proceed to give us a whole brief on hostile acts that have been committed against US Forces in the last couple of years, along with "undercover" Kuwaiti nationals, and so forth. The commanding general of US Forces in the middle east also referred to Kuwait as a "Combat zone." So what is it!? From the way I see it, if we aren't walking around with ammunition on the Base, then it's not combat. So the time here in Kuwait will be spent on briefing after briefing, ranging from Cultural awareness to language training, and just about anything you can think of that might pertain to Iraq. We'll also do some live training (firing ranges) and vehicle maneuvers. It doesn't quite feel like I'm in the middle east..Aside from the endless miles of "moon dust" it almost just feels like Ft. Hood in Texas. I guess realitly won't quite hit until we actually step into Iraq. We have internet in our tents, which is quite a bonus. It's slow and weak, but it's worth it to be able to touch base with people at home. Anways, I'll update a few times over the next couple of weeks, but there won't be a whole lot going on. I'm gonna catch a few hours of sleep before our next briefing at 1300. Pretty exhausted from the traveling and time difference. -Out here-
